U.2

« Glossary Index

U.2 is the simpler name for the SFF-8639 standard used to connect NVMe disk drives to computers. NVMe drives connect directly to the computer PCI bus bypassing connection technologies such as ATA, SCSI or SAS. This greatly increases the speed of the data path between the computer and the drive. The U.2 connector allows NVMe drives to reside in traditional drive bays with the data path directly connected the PCI bus. NVMe drives can then be removed or hot-swapped like a standard 2.5″ form factor drive.
